Can Hypnosis Make You A Better Guitar Player?
Dec 26th, 2007 by Guitar MX Admin
Using hypnosis to improve your guitar skills may seem a bit preposterous. After all, there is no substitute for years of practice and study to become a good guitar player.
| It is possible though to practice playing an instrument, and make little substantial progress because of a lack of interest, which affects how you practice. Oftentimes, people stop practicing because they lack motivation. Since these are problems with attitude, perhaps hypnosis can help improve a person’s attitude and help them practice more frequently and practice better. | ![]() |
A downloadable hypnosis session from HypnosisDownloads.com claims to help learn a musical intrument. This MP3 hypnosis session claims to help you get motivated to practice frequently, and feel good about practicing, and help you feel inspired and focused on your long term musical goals. They also have another hypnosis download to help overcome performance anxiety and stage fright.
I don’t have experience with these particular hypnosis programs, but I have used hypnosis for another reason (insomnia), and it worked! So naturally, I am considering these as tools help in the guitar journey. I would be interested in what others think of this.

You know, this story with downloadable hypnosis remembers me a story about the ‘brown noise”. If you don’t know what it is, it is a sound that is supposed to make your anus muscles loose just by listening it instantly. I remember downloading it from the internet but never listening it because it was said that you just don’t have enough time to get to the bathroom after listening it
I’ve heard that these are nothing more than marketing gimmics…hypnosis is meant to act subliminally..as such, you’d probably see improvement if you PLAYED under hypnosis, but playing is far from subliminal.
Funny that you all should bring this up… I quit cigarettes with hypnosis and got to thinking… what if i could find hypnosis to help me stop sucking at guitar? i googled it and found a website and bought the cd (sam brown hypnosis for musicians).
One of the suggestions helps you to recognize sheet music in chunks… like read several notes at a time instead of one. that is about like speed reading.
I will say from first hand experience that i wouldn’t be reading music if i hadn’t done that cd. if you really want hypnosis to work, you have to be able to rest your ego while hearing the new suggestions.
Cool article! It’s new information that hypnosis helps playing guitar player. I believe too as we practice hypnosis it helps us get retrieved from stress tension and fear. I got mine from Andrew Johnson’s site. It gave confidence in me. When we get confidence and we over come our fear it will helps to get succeed in every step we take.
Playing a musical instrument is all in the mind so hypnosis can help! I tried an audio at hypnobusters and it worked pretty well. I am now more relaxed when playing and don’t worry about making mistakes. Because of this I seem to make far fewer mistakes and play in a more flowing and ‘smooth’ way.
