Guitarist Ron Asheton of the Stooges was discovered dead today in his Detroit home. It’s believed that he died of a heart attack a few days ago. He was 60 years old.

On February 10, Magna Carta Records will release a compilation CD called “Guitars That Ate My Brain”, as reported on Blabbermouth. The album includes 12 instrumentals by some great metal shredders, including guitar players from Megadeth, Strapping Young Lad, Korn, Guns N’ Roses and Testament.

Legendary soloist and Chickenfoot guitarist Joe Satriani recently commented on his copyright lawsuit with Coldplay. From the papers filed on December 4, 2008, Satriani claims that the Grammy nominated Coldplay song “Viva La Vida” uses “substantial original portions” of his song “If I Could Fly” and is seeking any and all profits from the song. A robot has recently proven that you don’t need soul to play Guitar Hero. A robot called “Cythbot”, developed by Cyth Systems, can play through Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” at Expert level with up to 98% accuracy. Here’s a video of the feat.
