Chickenfoot Releases Album, Performs on Tonight Show

Chickenfoot has arrived. The Supergroup performed last night on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Here’s a video from the performance; Chickenfoot playing “Oh Yeah”.

The appearance coincided with the release of their self-titled album, which can be bought now at Amazon.com for just $3.99!

9 Year Old Guitar Prodigy Performs on TV, Meets His Idol

A while back, Guitar MX brought you the story of Yuto Miyazaw, an 8 year-old guitar prodigy from Japan. Yuto, now 9, recently made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show and playe Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne. Here’s a video of his performance.

The guitarist even got to meet Ozzy, his idol, on the show. Who know’s, maybe he will be playing for Ozzy some day.

Chickenfoot Tour Dates Sell Out in Record Time

Moe Chickenfoot news. It seems the band has sold out nine concerts that had scheduled for May. These intimate venues sold out in record time, and it seems there will be high demand for their debut album to be released on June 9, 2009, which can be pre-ordered here.

The band released this video on their YouTube channel, announcing their spring tour.

Chickenfoot Releases 2 Songs Online

There is more news concerning Chickenfoot, the supergroup featuring Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith. The band has released two of their new songs on their web site and MySpace page. The songs are called “Soap on a Rope” and “Down the Drain”.

The band will also be featured on the cover of next months edition of Guitar World.

Chickenfoot is currently working on their debut album. MusicRadar will have a full review of it soon.

Gibson Guitar Hero Lawsuit Thrown Out of Court

You may recall a lawsuit filed last year by Gibson Guitars against Activision, owners of the Guitar Hero game. Gibson’s lawsuit claimed that the video game infringed a patent of theirs, and requested that Activision obtain a license from Gibson to distribute the video game. There has been a recent development to this story. Last week, the lawsuit was thrown out of court. In a sternly worded decision, Judge Mariana R. Pfaelzer wrote:

No reasonable person of ordinary skill in the relevant arts would interpret the ‘405 Patent as covering interactive video games…Gibson would have this Court determine that any device that controls something that produces musical sounds is covered by the ‘405 Patent

This is good news for Activision, who already had a relationship with Gibson with the Guitar Hero game. No word on if that relationship will continue. You can read more about this story here.

Chickenfoot Supergroup Releases New Promo Video

A while back, the Guitar MX Blog brought you the story of Chickenfoot, the new supergroup featuring Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The group is currently working on a new album, and just released this new promo video.

Joe Satriani had promised in an interview with MusicRadar that Chckenfoot would not be the final name of the group. “We just had to call it something for the time being. It’s definitely not going to be Chickenfoot. I guarantee it.” But as you can see from the video, they have now fully embraced the name.

Guitar Hero Metallica Tracks Revealed

Activision has just announced that their much anticipated Guitar Hero Metallica video game will be released on March 29, 2009 for Xbox and PS3. Metallica is the second band to have their own Guitar Hero game; Aerosmith being the first.

Dean Announces Winner of Get Yor Wings Shredder Search Contest

Earlier this month, Dean Guitar announced the winner of their “Get your Wings Shredder Search” contest, which began in July. The grand prize winner is Ed to Shred, who has a unique onstage persona. He dresses as a nerd, compelete with bow tie and glasses. Here’s a video of the Dean announcement by former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, and a short performance by Ed To Shred himself.

2 Guitar Tablature Sites Added to Search Tool

Two new tablature engines have been added to the Tab Search page. You can now search for guitar tabs at Guitaretab.com and AllGuitarTabs.com, all from the GuitarMX.com

The Guitar MX Tab Search page provides an easy way to search multiple tabs sites. To search, simply enter the name of the artist you are looking for and select the tab engine, and you will find all the tabs from that site. Be sure to also try the Framed Tab Search page.

Guns N’ Roses Releases New Single, Free Dr. Pepper for All

Guns N’ Roses has just released the title track off of their long awaited “Chinese Democracy” album, which has been in the making for over 10 years and has cost over 13 million dollars to make.

You may recall from a previous post that soft drink maker Dr. Pepper offered a free can of Dr. Pepper to everyone in US, if Axl Rose would release the album in 2008. The offer worked, because the album will be released on November 23, 2008 at Best Buy stores.

Dr. Pepper has said that they will keep their end of the deal, which means free Dr. Pepper for everyone in the US, except former GnR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, who were not included in the offer.
