| In a bizarre publicity stunt, soft drink maker Dr. Pepper said that if Gun N’ Roses released their long awaited ‘Chinese Democracy’ album in 2008, they would give a free can of Dr Pepper soda to everyone in the US, except ex-GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead. GNR singer Axl Rose posted this response on their web site: | ![]() |
We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album “Chinese Democracy,” as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him. – Axl Rose
That’s very nice of Axl to offer to share his soda with Buckethead, but what about Slash?
Axl has been working on the ‘Chinese Democracy’ album for over a decade, and has spent over $13 million on it. Its release date has been postponed numerous times. The chances of it being released this year are probably less than zero. Not a bad publicity stunt by Dr Pepper.
