Rodrigo y Gabriela are Rodrigo Sanchez (lead guitar) and Gabriela Quintero (rhythm guitar, percussion), an acoustic guitar duo from Mexico City, Mexico, now living in Ireland. They play a unique style of guitar that contains elements of folk, flamenco and thrash metal.
Their self-titled album ‘Rodrigo y Gabriela‘ was released in 2006, and contains some exceptional music, and includes covers of Led Zeppelin and Metallica. They have been making the rounds on late-night television in the US, and were recently featured on promos for MTV. They are currently touring Europe, and have been nominated as Best New Talent on the Guitar World Readers Poll 2008.

Have to agree. I was listening to their latest album today and it is just amazing. The right hand of Gabriela is a thing of beauty (and I don’t mean that in a lewd way either). The fact that the album is just the two guitars split hard left/right in the mix and it sounds so huge is amazing.
Got this last year for Christmas. It’s absolutely amazing. And I can’t tell who is the better guitarist, Rod or Gab. Both awesome at what they do. My CD came with an instructional DVD from Gabriela. After viewing it, I went back to my pick and figured I’ll leave her style to the pros.
The way she slaps her guitar seems so random, but of course, it’s far from random.
