Gibson To Release Limited Edition Robot Guitar
Nov 11th, 2007 by Guitar MX Admin
| On December 7, 2007, Gibson will be releasing the first run of the Limited Edition Robot Guitar, which is being called ‘the world’s first guitar with robot technology’. The main feature of this guitar is the patented self-tuning system known as Tronical PowerTune system, which was first described on our blog last month. They are now marketing this system on the Robot Guitar.
I agree with Jon at GuitarNoize, ‘Robot Guitar’ is a crap name. I’m not a fan of the blue silverburst finish either. But the self-tuning technology on the guitar makes up for this. |

Here’s a video on the Robot Guitar’s self-tuning system:
During the first run on December 7, selected guitar stores will each carry 10 of these guitars. A release date for regular models is scheduled for sometime in 2008. You can find out more about the Robot Guitar here.

I do like the fact that they have done a google maps mashup to show dealer locations on the microsite, I forgot to mention that on my blog!
The Locate page wasn’t loading for me when I first checked it out, but now it’s working. Nice. I see my local Guitar Center is one of the sites…not that I’ll be buying one.

The intonation section of the vid was a big disappointment for me. I assumed the saddles would self-adjust like the tuners. Oh well, maybe next year.
Yeah, I read somewhere that the guitar intonates, which would seem to imply the saddles would self-adjust. Guess not. Still great technology though, and will only get better.
