Gigwise.com recently polled their staff and had them come up with a list of the top 50 Guitarists Guitarists…Ever!
These kinds of list are simply opinions and are fun to read, but I don’t recall seeing a list that needed more rearranging and had so many glaring omissions. |

Nice save with Page and Hendrix in the top 2. You can see the original list with explanations here.

How can you possible rank Cobain or Harrison better than let’s say Marty Friedman? Cobain is not even a guitarist, he is a guitar player IMO, he just uses his guitar. It is sooo turned around, this top…
You know something’s wrong when they need to specify “of Led Zeppelin,” etc.
Actually, I would disagree that these lists are fun to read. I find them so tedious and ponderous.
I like this list a lot better that the Rolling stone Magazine one.

Where’s Dime? I would also be including Brad Paisley and Sully Erna in on the list too.
THIS LIST SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kurt Cobain is better than Marty Friedman? HAVE YOU EVER EVEN LISTENED TO “Hangar 18″?????? Kurt’s better than EDDIE VAN FREAKIN HALEN???????? NEVER IN THE ENTIRE EXPANSE OF EXISTENCE WOULD THAT EVER BE TRUE. wow. Mick Thomson shouldn’t even be on here b/c he’s absolutely TERRIBLE…the only thing he can do decently is downpick. Eric Clapton is sooooooooo overrated it isn’t even funny. why do these “best guitarist” lists completely ignore the extreme metal genre? Karl Sanders is a lot better than a good majority of people on this list as is people like Alexi Laiho and Muhammad Suicmez. This list deserves to be deleted ASAP.
No Buddy Guy? Hendrix cancelled his own shows just top see him. He’s a guitar god to the majority of the list. Shame! Shame!! Shame!!!
Even with some of the obvious goofs, this list is far superior to the ridiculous and clearly biased Rolling Stone magazine list. Having Page and Hendrix in top two gave some credibility to this group. Thank God they put Led Zeppelin in parentheses next to Jimmy Page’s name or else I’d have had to look it up. I was thinking maybe he was in New Kid On The Block. For my money, when he was on, there has been nobody more moving and powerful with the axe than Jimmy Page.
