Over 1,800 guitar players got together in Germany this past weekend and played “Smoke On the Water” in unison, breaking a world record set just a couple of weeks ago. The previous record was set in Kansas City when 1,683 guitar players got together and played the same song.
This record setting could go on back and forth for quite awhile. This is such an easy riff to play, that there is no limit to how many people can get together to play guitar to this song. As one German guitar player was quoted saying in Spiegel Online:
The secret of the song is that you can learn it in 15 minutes, even if you have never had a guitar in your hand until then, that is what is so fantastic about it.
