Guitar World Launches Beta Tabs Site
Dec 12th, 2007 by Guitar MX Admin
| Guitar World has just released the beta version of ‘Guitar World Tabs’, a site devoted to providing the most accurate guitar transcriptions available anywhere. In addition to featuring user-submitted ASCII tabs like other tab sites, the site also features tabs straight from Guitar World magazine, which is considered to be one of the best sources for accurate guitar tablature. These tabs are free to view and fully legal. There is no need to worry about the site receiving a take down letter from the NMPA like so many tabs sites are these days. The site also hosts instructional videos submitted by users, and videos taken from GuitarWorld.com. | ![]() |
Right now, the premium tabs are from bands like Judas Priest, Avenged Sevenfold, Los Lonely Boys, Good Charlotte and others. More bands will be added every week.

Some of the best news I’ve heard in a while. Well, besides Michael Vick getting locked up…
But really, free, legal, accurate tabs… that’s awesome.

Meaning what, that you have to pay for them? If no, how are they legal? OK, beside the fact that I don’t see why are they illegal in the first place. I like they way they are displayed, anyway, they put some work into the site!
They must have bought some kind of rights to the tabs when they put them in their mags. It’s possible they own “giveaway rights” or something.
I’m not exactly sure how they offer free tabs legally, but I’m sure Jason is correct, they have already purchased the rights to publish the tabs of these songs. I am curious to see if the site will remain free or if at some point they will charge a membership fee.
I can see them charging once they get all the incoming links and buzz they need. Good call Kyle.
Until they start charging I think that this is a great resource…if they start charging then they need to drop the user submitted stuff though and only have the professionally done tabs available…
Good point. If the site were filled with Guitar World tabs, I would pay a monthly fee for that service. If it still had user submitted tabs…no way.
