How Can This Be Eddie Van Halen?

This is a video of Eddie Van Halen performing a guitar solo at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas on December 30, 2007, posted today at Blabbermouth. At first, I honestly thought this was another StSanders parody video. How could this be Eddie Van Halen? He sounds horrible.
These Van Halen tickets aren’t cheap. The guy who filmed this flew all the way from the UK just to see the concert. Come on Ed, you can at least try.

Is this really Van Halen? WTF?! Is he drunk or what? If you look at the 0:51 moment, he is just about to fall or what? I have seen this video before, but frankly I didn’t believe is Van Halen
I don’t believe that is real, if its not St Sanders it looks like someone else has given it the overdub treatment.
Nah, there’s a guy who does overdubs to make it look like great guitarists look terrible. They’re very funny.
You think it’s fake? I think it’s definitely, and sadly real. It’s Ed’s tone, and there’s enough good playing mixed in with the garbage to hear that it’s him. I have read this kind of performance has not been uncommon during this tour. I don’t know if he’s drunk, but he clearly doesn’t care about the solo. I’m sure he gets bored playing Eruption every night.
It would seem, from fan reviews of the same gig, that it’s genuine. He looks completely and utterly sozzled to me.

It sounds more like the StSanders “Eddie Shreds” treatment (which he’s done to everyone from Malmsteen, to Petrucci, to Slash, to Santana).

I think that sadly, the sound is in fact Ed. There’s no mistaking that distorted tone he’s getting these days.
He was much better when I saw him in February, though. Not sure what’s to account for this, unless he is drunk, as some suggest.
