The First Guitar Designed For The iPod

Gearlog recently had an article about a guitar called the iCoustic guitar. It’s the first guitar designed to work with an iPod. It uses patented technology built into small travel model guitars made by Taylor, Martin, Yamaha and Alvarez. But with a built-in speaker, the mini-guitar sounds like a jumbo dreadnought guitar.
| The iCoustic guitar has a speaker built into the sound hole, which is enabled with the flip of the switch. Volume and tone can be adjusted on the built-in control panel. You can plug an iPod or other DAP device directly into the guitar, and play along. The guitar works great with effects pedals and portable recording devices, without the need of an external amplifier. In fact, the guitar can also double as an amp for a portable MP3 player. | ![]() |
Here is a video demo of the iCoustic guitar by inventor Ken Preece.
The use of Velcro to secure the iPod is kind of disappointing, but it otherwise seems like a very high quality system. iCoustic guitars are priced from $499 to $749. The iCoustic System can also be added to any acoustic guitar for $249. You can read more about the iCoustic guitar here.

Ha! Interesting, what are they going to make to keep people interested
