Kirk Hammett Says Solos on New Album Sound Like Angus Young

In a recently posted Fly on the Wall video posted at the MissionMetallica site, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says that his solos off of their new album sound like those of AC/DC guitarist Angus Young.
The guitar sound is a little bit more aggro. It’s less creamy and my playing is way different from previous albums. It’s almost like an Angus Young kind of feel….If I was putting a general description on it it’s kinda like Angus Young type stuff. It’s the sound, it’s the attitude, it’s the liveliness, minus all the pentatonic stuff.
Here’s the video of the Guitar World Hall of Fame inductee:
Metallica’s new album, called Death Magnetic, comes out on September 12, 2008.

I think it is very brave of him to say that, because after a certain level such appreciations are usually not wanted, everybody wants to sound like himself and to be one of the most famous guitar players and to say that you sound like somebody else, well, it is brave, IMO.
Yes, brave, and an honor to Angus. I’m sure Kirk will catch some criticism for it too.
I think this shows a Kirk Hammet with his feet on the ground, a more human star, if you think about, not a regular VIP that knows nobody but him around.
