Meet the Guitar Hero Playing Robot
Jul 18th, 2007 by Guitar MX Admin
A couple of Israeli software engineers known as the GarageGeeks, have developed a Guitar Hero playing robot, known as ‘Guitar Heronoid’.
Guitar Heronoid is a headless department store mannequin with two computers for a brain. One computer captures the video output from the game frame-by-frame, and sends it to the other computer, which detects the notes played. This computer then sends signals to Guitar Heronoids’ robotic hands as he plays along. Here is video of Guitar Heronoid in action.
As you can see, Guitar Heronoid isn’t going to be winning any competitions for style and showmanship anytime soon, but the inventors are still working out the kinks. You can follow their progress from their blog.
Will there be a time when robots will be shredding on real guitars? More than likely, but as you can see from this video, there is still some room for improvement in guitar-playing-robot technology.
