Robot Guitar Becomes Self-Aware At 5pm Today
Dec 7th, 2007 by Guitar MX Admin
| Today is the worldwide release date of the much talked about and anticipated Limited Edition Gibson ‘Robot Guitar‘; a guitar which tunes itself using robot technology. This technology, which is described here, was developed by a German company called Tronical. It automatically tunes the guitar in seconds using a CPU in the guitar, and tiny servo-motors that control the tuning pegs.
Gibson proudly showed off the Robot Guitar earlier this week in an attempt to build up hype for todays release, and it looks like their attempt worked. |

If you’re thinking of getting a Robot Guitar today, you will have to be very quick and very lucky. The Limited Edition guitars go on on sale today at 5pm local time at 400 select stores throughout the world, including these Guitar Center locations. Each store only has 10 Robot Guitars in stock, with a total of 4,000 guitars worldwide. Gibson expects each store to sell their guitars very quickly.
The Robot Guitar is expected to sell for $2,500 USD, which is about $1,000 more than a normal Les Paul without the Tronical self-tuning system (by the way, a regular guitar tuner costs about $19.99). If you can’t get one now, don’t worry, the regular model is scheduled for release in 2008. You can find out more about the Robot Guitar here.

I remember the rumors and I remember I considered that does not worth the money just for the tuning system.
