From the quote you gave, it doesn't sound like the fact that young kids are coming to his shows has anything to do with Guitar Hero. Does he say it does in the interview? Perhaps there's just a new recharge in that music scene, that's all. Although, it is possible that Guitar Hero has something to do with it. It's such a silly game, but so fun and people sit around playing it for hours, learning new music along the way. I wish learning guitar or buying a real guitar were that easy...
